I’m starting this blog to inspire and motivate you to live your best life. Today I wanted to talk about fashion versus style and the difference between the two. Everyone gets drawn into fashion differently. Whether it be walking past a store in the mall, following influencers/models on Instagram, watching a show/movie, or even just seeing what your friends are wearing. When we see our friends or that attractive person or that celebrity dressed a certain way, we feel inclined to dress like them because it’s “in fashion” or “everyone else wears it so I should too”. We’re judged by our appearances, especially on social media nowadays, everyone is quick to put labels on what’s “in” and what’s not.

I remember in middle school (I went to a private Catholic school) the only brands you could wear were Aeropostale, American Eagle, Hollister, & Abercrombie. And the preppy trend continued in college too with Vineyard Vines, Ralph Lauren Polo, and Nautica. Not saying there’s anything wrong with these brands I actually still wear some of them but the only reason I would wear them was to fit in with how everyone else dressed. The only style/trend I followed on my own back in middle school that I still follow until this day was wearing super skinny jeans & fitted shirts, which I always got roasted for, but I didn’t care because I hated the look of baggy/loose clothing.

I didn’t really have my own style. Until I watched this music video of Jaden Smith in 2015. He was wearing black skinny jeans, black shoes, and an oversized black shirt with a black jacket. I’d never seen anything like it and thought it was a dope look. I already had the black skinny jeans so I went to Urban Outfitters the next week and bought black doc martens and a black oversized curved hem shirt. & let me tell you, the looks I got when I wore this all black fit to my classes the next day, EVERYONE was looking at me funny. Probably thinking “is he emo or goth?” “did he just come from a funeral”? I don’t think I wore that fit together again for a while. Looking back now I realize that was my style and I was afraid to express it because of how I was being judged. Also looking back everyone hated Jaden Smith in 2015 when he started his music/fashion career and now he’s an icon (No pun intended).

Fashion to me is what’s “trending” or what everyone else is wearing. Style is wearing what you like no matter if it’s trending or not. Your style is what sets you apart from everyone else. When people point out certain clothes or shoes and say “that looks like something you would wear” that means you’ve established your style. I get fashion inspiration from the bloggers/celebrities I follow and make it my own.

My style is always changing, I see new things I like everyday but if I had to describe my style I’d say it’s pretty simple/minimalistic. I usually only stick to neutral colors. A few staples in my outfits are boots (Chelseas, Dr Martens, Military boots) super skinny jeans (Hera London) & Denim Jackets or Bombers.

SOooo I LOVE engaging & interacting with you guys & I wanna see YOUR style. I want everyone to use #LudaStyle on your next posts. It can be anything, your outfit, shoes, favorite brand, favorite products (flat lay), or even just a cool edit. I’ll be following the hashtag #LudaStyle and liking and commenting on everyones posts and giving shoutouts to my favorite looks.
